More footballers homes targeted by burglars

Another Premier League footballer has been targeted by burglars on a matchday.

Newcastle’s Brazilian midfielder Joelinton reported to police that he received an alert on his phone that ‘three men’ had entered his house while he was watching his team play Manchester City on Saturday evening. He is currently out injured but attended the match.

Police say officers were sent to the property northwest of Newcastle but those alleged to have been involved had fled the scene. They say enquiries are ongoing but haven’t said whether anything was stolen.

Just after Christmas, burglars reportedly stole £1m worth of valuables from the Cheshire home of Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish while his family were at the property.

These stories highlight the need for people with high profiles to be aware of their home security if they are involved in an event in the public eye and are clearly not at home.
